hello everyone,
I'm traying to size my pipe transferring Fuel for a project in morocco. So to determine the diamter's pipe I need know the permissible speed of the Fuel in this pipe, which make necessary for me asking if there is a standard fixing this speed between two values?
any help will be very appreciate
Regards

As a rule of thumb process engineers consider the following maximum velocities:
For Liquid Line Max 15 ft/sec
For Gas Lines Max 60 ft/sec
For Liquid Line Max 15 ft/sec
For Gas Lines Max 60 ft/sec

I believe Zak is quoting wrong velocities. The nominal design velocities employed in process design of piping I have always worked with are:
For Liquid Lines: (Normal) 5 ft/sec; Max. = 10 ft/sec
For Gas Lines: (Max) 100 ft/sec
For Liquid Lines: (Normal) 5 ft/sec; Max. = 10 ft/sec
For Gas Lines: (Max) 100 ft/sec

You can find line sizing criteria in http://www.cheresour...id-line-sizing/ '> http://www.cheresour...id-line-sizing/ , posts of 6 Oct 2011. Data seems to generally comply with post No 5, with more details reported.

ZAK's sizing criteria is highly acceptable as it is based on API RP-14E.
We can alter the design criteria depending on which code or standared we are following.

The Criteria I mentioned are based on "Recommended Practice for Design and Installation of Offshore Production Platform Piping Systems API RECOMMENDED PRACTICE 14E (RP 14E)"
